Blog Post #7: Chapter 9

After writing my first paper, I thought it would be interesting to read a chapter about revising, compare what and how I revised the first paper, improve upon that, and then continue to use these newfound techniques in my second paper that I will be writing.

In this chapter, Chapter 9: Revising & Remixing Your Work, the peer review revising is mainly what caught my eye. Last class, as well as several other classes ago, there were groups of people who had to respond to a person’s idea or paper, and then tell them how they could improve their paper. The only problem with this is that whenever it was somebody’s turn to speak, most people would/will say “I thought it was really good,” or “I’m not sure how you can improve on that.” But in this section of the chapter, it explains how you can get the most information from your peers as possible.

You can ask the person if they understood the concept entirely, or if it could be explained in more detail. If by this point, the author of the paper still isn’t sure, they can ask a person to explain what they wrote in different words to see if the audience truly understood the message. By doing this, a person that may have thought they knew what the paper was about, can now be corrected, all the while helping the author to improve his/her paper.

If one person gives an idea that you’re unsure about, you can ask other people if they feel the same way, and then change it if need be.
